Been A While...

It's been a while since I last posted anything.  Golf has been pretty good in the last year.  Recently I purchased new irons and got the Mizuno MP59's.  I finished T2 in the club championship and won the net division shooting 76-72 (14 bogeys in the tournament and lost by 2).  Prior to that I played in the USGA Public Links Qualifier and shot 81-74 with 4 double bogeys and a triple bogey.

Long story short, I have been playing pretty well and been consistent for the most part.

Commissioner Cup

Today I played in the finals of the 2010 Commissioner Cup.  I won!  I didn't play my best, but I only made two mistakes and luckily they didn't hurt me.  I was +1 during the match and ended up winning 4&3.  I finished off the match with a birdie on hole #6 at The Mill Course.

World Cup

The 2010 World Cup has been pretty exciting so far!  The USA made it out of pool play, but unfortunately was eliminated by Ghana in their first game of the round of 16.
Currently, there are 4 teams left, with Germany and Spain just claiming the last two spots today.  Uruguay plays The Netherlands on Tuesday and Spain plays Germany on Wednesday.  From the looks of the teams remaining, I would guess that the winner of the Spain vs. Germany game will end up being the 2010 World Cup champion.

Pro-Am #3

I played in my third Pro-Am of the year on June 28 at Western Hill Country Club in Cincinnati, OH.  I didn't play that bad although I could not make a birdie to save my life!  My hole by hole scores:

Hole 1: bogey
Hole 2: par
Hole 3: par
Hole 4: bogey
Hole 5: bogey
Holes 6-16: pars on each hole
Hole 17: triple bogey
Hole 18: par

finished with a 77 (+6).  the pro on my team finished with a 67 (-4) and ended up being the low pro of the day.

I have played well lately, so hopefully it continues.

Pro-Am #2

My second Pro-Am of the year was in Dublin, OH at a course called Riviera Country Club.  It was a really nice course with extremely fast greens.  I didn't play too bad overall and ended up shooting 78 (42-36).  My team ended up shooting a 69 in a best ball format.  We didn't win anything this time, but it was a fun trip.

The next tournament for me is May 23 at Shawnee Lookout.  I'll update after that.

The bad thing is though...my Bushnell Rangefinder (like the one below) is no longer working properly.  It has been terrific the last three years, but I left it in the sun all day and I think that made the "Mode" button not work properly anymore.  That makes me upset a little, but it's not the end of the world.

Pro-Am

Today was the first Pro-Am of the year, played at Four Bridges Country Club, for me and my individual score didn't go too well.  As a team, we posted a 67 in a best-ball format, so that's not bad I don't think.  When we left, we were the clubhouse leaders, but there were still a lot of teams out and some really good players still to play.

Hopefully our 67 holds up for a while and we can possibly win a prize or something.  :)

Shooter

Every time I see this movie, it makes me want to be in the CIA or something...what a great movie!!  Mark Wahlberg has a fantastic performance in this movie.  If you like fast paced shoot-em-up movies, this is for you!

Movies

I think I am going to start branching out on topics discussed here.  The first topic will be movies.  The last movie I watched was called "Law Abiding Citizen".  This movie was fantastic!  Gerard Butler plays an incredible role along with Jamie Foxx.  I could watch this movie over and over again.

Finally...

My position where I work  finally was made full-time.  Hopefully it actually happens because it has been 4 years in the works...

The down side is that I am no longer able to work at the golf course I have worked at for the past 10 years.

Is it spring time yet?

I'm starting to get tired of all the snow and cold weather hanging around. I'm ready for spring time to get here so I can be outside for an extended period of time and not be frozen to the core...

Winner

The golf outing went as planned. We ended up winning the outing on a scorecard playoff, shooting 14 under. For the win, we got a trip to Myrtle Beach for 4 people. Each person gets 2 rounds of golf and 2 breakfasts (3 days/2 nights).

Golf league this week went pretty good as well. I bogeyed the last hole for the second straight week to shoot 37 (same as last week)...but...I got a skin worth $75.

All in all, a good week of golf so far...

Golf League Update + Tournamlent

I have played 4 weeks so far and haven't played bad yet, really. I have two 38's and two 36's...have won $77 in skin money, almost a fifth of what I paid to get into league. Unfortunately, our team record is 2-2. I was right on the handicap situation. Having to give a lot of strokes each week is coming back to bite us. Oh well though, as long as I keep playing well, I will be happy.

I played in a tournament yesterday, but didn't fare too well. My dad and I struggled to get anything going, getting our first birdie on hole #15. When we left, we were in third place, but I don't think we ended up there. There were a few teams still out, and I know who some of the players are and they probably finished better.

Big golf outing this weekend. Winner of this 4-person scramble gets a golf trip to Myrtle Beach for 3 days and 2 nights. Each player also gets 2 18-hole rounds of golf for free. I won this two years ago, so hopefully I can again!

I'll update after this week's activities.

2009 Golf League

So this year's league starts next week and I have a different partner this year. I honestly think we have the best team in the league, but since it is handicapped, I have a funny feeling that we are going to get beat due to the number of strokes we will have to give the other teams.

Anyhow...I thought I would write since I haven't in a while.

Winner Winner

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner! That is what I have been saying the last couple days of golf. On Friday, I won a raffle (after playing in the WEBN Frog Open at Walden Ponds) that gave me 2 tickets to each of the last 4 UC football games this year. Then, on Saturday, I won a golf outing that gave me a round trip airline ticket to anywhere in the continental US. I can't wait for the next event!

Golf Round

I have been struggling for a while now. I just can't get the club to point at the target consistently at the top of the backswing. It is laid off always.

The first 9-holes was an absolute nightmare. I didn't have any pars and shot 45. Something must have clicked on #17 though. I made birdie on that hole and started to turn things around.

The second 9-holes was much better. I had 3 birdies and a bogey, shooting 34 for a total of 79. If someone would have told me I was going to shoot 79 today like that, I probably would have laughed at them. It was just such and up and down day.

Club Championship

So the Club Championship is this weekend and I am hitting the ball like garbage. I am going to have to get some work in beforehand just so I don't embarrass myself. Hopefully I will play well enough to win something this time. The last three years, I haven't won any prizes. I'll update after the day one (Saturday).

The Men's Met

The last two days were not so good, especially yesterday. I played Terrace Park Country Club in Milford, Ohio and just absolutely hit the ball everywhere. I mainly had a few bad holes, but I just couldn't get anything together and ended up shooting a horrible 87. The first three holes there I went, par, double bogey and quadruple bogey (5-6-8). Starting out 6 over par in the first three holes never helps the occasion. I thought I might have a chance to get some birdies, but just left everything short on the greens, which seems to be a re-occurring theme over the past week.

Today at The Ridge Club near Montgomery Road in Cincinnati, I hit the ball much better, but missed a few greens on the back 9 and the ones I did hit, I seemed to be in the wrong position on the green (above the hole). The greens were really quick and I just couldn't get the ball to stop around the hole on the downhill putts. Even though my score was 78, I felt I played much better than that indicates. Hopefully next year will be better...

US Public Links Qualifier

So today wasn't that good. I struggled all day and it didn't help that I got off to a very slow start bogeying the first 5 holes. I didn't have a par on the first 9 holes and shot 39. I just don't know what to say other than hopefully my next tournament will go better. I ended up shooting 81-79 and finished T-36 out of 61 that finished (some people didn't show up and others withdrew).

My next tournament is the Tony Blom Amateur Championship (the Cincinnati Met) on June 23 and 24. I'll update after that...

108th US Open

Tiger Woods, now that is a name that will go down in history along with Rocco Mediate. These two golfers gave us an absolutely amazing playoff yesterday (6-16-2008). The front 9 was fairly even with Woods going up right at the end, but the back 9 was very, very dramatic. Woods went up by three shots with 8 holes to play and I have to think that most people watching thought it was over. Rocco proved us all wrong.

Rocco ended up making birdie on three consecutive holes (13, 14 and 15) to take a 1 shot lead with three holes to play; the same situation as Sunday. Woods and Mediate traded pars on 16 and 17 and the US Open came down to number 18 once again.

Woods put his tee shot in the fairway, giving him an opportunity to go for the green in two, which he successfully did, while Mediate knocked it into the left bunker. Mediate played smart and just hit it down the fairway. Mediate's third shot came to rest about 15-20 feet from the hole while Woods had a 45 foot eagle putt to win.

Woods missed his putt by about 5 feet or so and then Rocco had a chance to win the US Open. His putt missed just left. They both made the next putt and we got to see extra golf again!

The sudden death hole was #7, a slight dogleg right par 4. Woods had the honor and put his tee shot on the right side of the fairway while Mediate put his tee shot in the left bunker again. Rocco's lie in the bunker was not all that good and thus he didn't hit a good shot. His next shot went well left and into the gallery. He received a free drop and knocked it on the green about 20 feet away.

Woods, meanwhile, hit his second shot just outside 20 feet and had that putt to win...he missed. Mediate had to make his putt to extend the playoff but just missed making Woods the 2008 US Open champion.
